Affiliate disclosure
Tools for the Trade is free to use. We may earn a commission when you buy software through some of our links. Here's exactly how that works, and what it never changes.
This page contains affiliate links. If you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Picks never depend on commissions. Disclosure
In short
Some vendor links are affiliate links. If you buy through one, the vendor may pay us a commission, at no extra cost to you. Commissions never change which tools we pick, how we rank them, or the prices we show.
Affiliate links
- Every "Visit" button for a vendor goes through a short page on our site at
/go/<tool>/. It counts the click (see our privacy policy) and forwards you to the vendor. - If that vendor runs an affiliate program that has approved us, you're forwarded through our affiliate link. Otherwise you go to the vendor's normal website.
- Pages that contain affiliate links say so in a note at the top, and affiliate links are marked
rel="sponsored"in the page code. - You never pay more for using our link. If a vendor offers our readers a discount, we show it next to the link.
Right now we have approved affiliate relationships with Rosie and Connecteam. We've applied to other programs and update this list when one is approved. We don't publish commission terms.
What commissions never change
The quiz, the alternatives rankings and the comparisons run on the same published rules for every tool, and those rules don't know who pays us. Free tools with no affiliate program are recommended first whenever they fit. Details are in our conflict-of-interest policy.
Featured listings
Software vendors can apply for a founding featured listing. It's free for the first partners: the vendor fact-checks its pricing page and links to it. Every featured vendor carries a visible "Founding partner" badge, and the listing never moves a tool up in the quiz or rankings. If we ever offer paid placements, they'll be clearly labelled as paid wherever they appear.
Newsletter sponsors
The Toolbox Report, our newsletter, doesn't carry sponsors today. If an issue ever does, the sponsored part will be labelled "Sponsored" and kept separate from our picks. Affiliate links in the newsletter follow the same rules as the site.
Discounts and offers
When an affiliate partner offers our readers a deal, we describe it only as the vendor does, next to the link. Offers can end; the vendor's checkout has the final terms.
